The BPKIHS Central Library is the Heart of teaching &
learning activities of the Institute. It has been growing in
every aspect like collections, services, staff and other
facilities.The main mission and objectives are given below.
- To advance the education, research activities and
clinical practice of the institute.
- To provide materials both in conventional and
e-formats and furnish an environment conductive to study
& research.
- To provide documentation & information services and
bring out relevant publications.

Residents, Doctors, Post Graduate & Undergraduate Students,
Paramedical Professionals, Nursing Officers, Staff nurses.

Magazines & Newspaper:-The Library subscribes 6
titles of daily newspapers, 3 titles of weekly and 1 title
of monthly magazines to provide general information to the
users.
Online Resources:-Free full-text access through
username & password. HINARI (Health InterNetwork Access
to Research Initiative): Our institute is registered with
HINARI in January 2002; which is part of the United Nation's
Health InterNetwork project and is coordinated by WHO. The
library right now has an access to more than 2800 titles of
Bio-medical journals with full text. Users can have full
text access from Library as well as department and
residence.Through PERI programme:
- Cochrane Medical Library: Online databases of
various disciplines in Health Sciences.
- Emerald: Over 100 titles of journals on Hospital
Administration & Management and
other subjects.
- Oxford University Press: Over 120 titles of
Journals.
- Blackwell Synergy: More than 600 titles of Health
Sciences journals and other disciplines.
- Registration has been completed and username &
password awaited to access online
resources of World Bank, Springer, Royal Society of
London, Cambridge University
Press, African Journals Online etc.
Sections of the Library:-About 98% of the
collection are kept in open access shelves. For maximum use
and easy access, the library collection and facilities are
managed in following sections:

- The Central Library added 506 volumes of books in
its collection including 133 volumes of Medical and
General books from Late Prof. Biswojit Sen's collection.
- The Central Library subscribed 60 titles of
International, 63 titles of Indian and 2 titles of
Nepalese Health sciences Journals.
- Implemented new software developed by Quick Solution
Team as per library requirement to facilitate
Circulation Services (Load Services) of Books and also
prepared for the management of other collections like
journals, WHO publications, Theses etc.
- Organized a "Health Sciences Book fair" in August
2004.
- Regular review of the departmental libraries.
- Receiving few titles of International, Indian and
Nepalese journals regularly as a complimentary copy.
- Downloading articles from online resources as
requested by users.
- A special section has been set up to house
Theses/Reports of faculty members, students of the
Institute for reference purpose.
- Installed 11 computers with one master computer for
literature search facility
